Toddler Disco-cise!

Ok. I don't mean to sound totally smug or anything, but I have created something totally awesome!

I call it;

TODDLER DISCO_CISE!

It is a perfect mix of exercise, child-entertainment, child-parent bonding time, child-wearing out, boogy fun! And it is also easy as pie!

What could be better?!

Right, I'll stop showing off now about my inspired invention now and let you in on the secret of it!

I really struggle to find time to do actual exercise now that there is always a small person attached to me. Even when she's napping I find it difficult, because;
a) I can't leave the house so can't go running or to a class or anything.
b) If I do a fitness DVD I might wake her up with the telly being on and with me thud thudding all over the place, and
c) You never know when she might wake up, so you I have no idea how long I've got!
So my only options are the evening (no go atm, am just too worn out from the day and want to relax and catch up with DaddyBear) or early morning before Boo gets up and DaddyBear goes to work. This works well and gets me energised for the day, but it is so hard to drag myself out of bed some mornings! And so I find it difficult to get into a proper regime.
I was out for a friend's Hen Do last weekend and we did a lot of dancing! I was totally pooped after every song and thought to myself that this is what I should be doing every night to get myself fit!

I don't know about your little ones, but my Boo is always a bit cranky when she wakes up from nap, and usually it takes an hour or so of snuggle time in front of the telly to wake her up.
We were lounging in front of Toy Story (standard) one afternoon when I had a brainwave...

I asked Boo if she'd like to have a Disco with Mummy.

She immediately perked up and got excited. I set up a playlist on my Iphone; a few Disney classics, a lot of 1D, some upbeat kiddy songs, some Abba, Paolo Nutini, Katy Perry etc. Anything you can have a good boogy to! And went to her playroom where we, basically, just danced around like loons together!
And so Toddler Disco-cise was born!

We used her pom-poms and scarves to wave around (very good for your bingo wings!) and shook her maracas, bells and tambourine! We had a ball!

I popped out between songs to get dinner on the go and would pop back again for another boogy (very good for intense training as this raises and then rests your heart rate ready to go again! (I learnt that from Davina!))

It worked brilliantly as she usually pesters me when I'm cooking but she was fully entertained, surrounded by her toys and music, and she knew that I'd be back in a minute to dance with her again!

We have Discoed nearly everyday now for a week and we both love it! It really energises Boo (and me!) after her nap, but also ensures she's tired again by bedtime. I get to boogy to my fave songs, and she thinks I'm totally great and mega fun because I'm dancing round with her like a crazy lady! And it's giving me an hour of exercise a day that I was not getting before! It's win-win!

So there you go! There's my secret! Ace huh?! Well ok, I know it's not rocket science, but I am pretty impressed with myself for coming up with such a top, easy, fun exercise plan!

Well, I'd best go, it's nearly Toddler Disco-cise o'clock!

I hope you will give it a go with your little ones; they'll love you for it!

Thanks for reading,

MummyBear X

  9. Great idea! I find I get plenty of exercise walking everywhere, often carrying/pushing about 30kg worth of 2 boys, plus bags etc. I used to swim but find I don't have time these days, not that I need to with how worn out I am from walking and other stuff in everyday life with my boys :)
