When I'm older I want to be...

When I was little I dreamt of being an artist of some kind, mainly an illustrator.

When I got older and it was time to choose Uni courses I chose to go to Uni straight away, with my then boyfriend, instead of taking a year to go to Art College and get my Foundation Degree before heading off to Uni.

Looking back now I still understand why I made that decision, but I do regret it- especially as things with that boyfriend didn't work out.

Lots of my friends did spend a year at Art College, and are now working as graphic designers and photographers- 2 careers I would have loved to be involved in.

I also have friends who have slogged their guts out working for free, or doing millions of exams, to try and get into the field they so badly wanted be in, from Publishing to Cardiac Physiology, to Acting. And I admire them all enormously.

I am desperate to help Boo achieve her dreams, whatever they may be.
I vow to not scoff at any idea she may have- no matter how unachievable it may seem.

Between DaddyBear's group of friends and my own we have contacts in a huge range of careers, Journalists, Lawyers, Teachers, Civil Servants, Scientists (yes, really!), Physiotherapists, Psychiatrists, PR gurus, Chefs, Nutritionists, Bankers, plus all the afore-mentioned careers! And I am determined to use them to Boo's advantage; for advice, work experience etc.

DaddyBear and I both agree that when Boo is old enough to get a Saturday job, that instead of getting a paper round or shop job, we will encourage and help her to arrange some kind of work experience or internship, in her field of interest. Which will serve her well on her CV, and help her to get a reality check to see if that really is the career path she'd like to follow.
With all the competition for jobs these days, having relevant experience on your CV is becoming essential.

I know all of this is way, way in the future, but as usual I can't help planning for it. And Boo has already started to express particular interests in different jobs, such as being a Doctor, a Vet, a musician, a Pilot, and my personal favourite, a Chef- the only books she chooses to read at the moment are cookbooks! (looking forward to lots of tasty meals from her in the future!)

Boo the Chef- we made Burritos last night!

I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I could not care less what she becomes, whether it's a Michelin Starred Chef, or a Bin Woman! As long as it's what she wants to do, and she is happy doing it, that's all that matters.

What do your little ones aspire to be?

Thanks for reading,

MummyBear X
